Dear Parents,
A nationwide initiative is underway to raise awareness among parents about preventing vision impairments in young children.
Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, develops as a result of abnormal visual development in childhood. One eye does not achieve normal visual acuity despite the absence of any detectable structural abnormalities. As a consequence, the child’s brain “learns” to ignore the image from the weaker eye, which over time can lead to permanent vision loss.
In Poland, amblyopia affects approximately 2–4% of the pediatric population. We would like to remind you about the importance of regular developmental check-ups, during which pediatricians assess your child’s visual development. These assessments make it possible to identify early warning signs and, if necessary, refer the child to an ophthalmologist for further evaluation.
